Roky Erickson, Los Super Seven, Al Green, Tom Russell -- these are a few of my favorite things.... Heard It On the X: Los Super 7 (Telarc)
There’s all of two original members left, with each getting one song to sing lead. And the album’s nothing like the previous two released until the LS7 name. That said, this wails, shimmies, and shakes—standout tracks: Delbert McClinton’s renditions of “Talk To Me”, done Sunny & the Sunliners-style and “I Live the Life I Love”, John Hiatt’s take on Sir Doug’s “I’m Not That Kat”, the very swingin’ version of “My Window Faces the South” sung by Lyle Lovett backed with a very hot western swing ensemble, and Joe Ely’s cover of Bobby Fuller’s second-best hit, “Let Her Dance”. Additional props to the West Side Horns’ arrangements for the old Sir Doug psychedelic jazz noodle chestnut, “Song of Everything”

Hotwalker: Tom Russell (Hightone Records)
A rich, vivid memoir of sleaze, lowlifes and personal heroes including Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac, Lenny Bruce, Edward Abbey, Harry Partch, Dave Van Ronk, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, and especially poet-circus midget Little Jack Horton, masked as an album. It sure got my teenage kid’s attention
